Metallic nanoparticles-biomolecules interactions play an important role in the control of incorporation, excretion, and more importantly particle toxicity. In our group we are currently exploring what kind of interactions are involved for the association of metallic nanoparticles (Au and Ag nanoparticles) and biomolecules (proteins, enzymes, and nucleic acids).
In the area of photocages, one of our recent publications demonstrates the release of acyclovir from a xanthone photocage. Acyclovir is the drug of choice for the treatment of ocular herpex simplex viral infections.
