 Facile photochemical synthesis of unprotected aqueous gold nanoparticles

A new strategy for the rapid synthesis of gold nanoparticles was developed. The method takes advantake of the efficient photocleavage of benzoins that produce strongly reducing ketyl radicals.

The simplicity of the method to make nanoparticles developed in our laboratories has led to its utilization for educational purposes. The University of Wisconsin has in its website a detailed protocol:
