Filipe Matos Pereira Lima was born in the city of Curitiba, capital of the State of Paraná, in the south of Brazil. Still in his childhood, he moved to Recife, in the northeast of Brazil for three years, then after a year living in Rio de Janeiro, he returned to his hometown. There he was invited to resume his middle and high school education in a private school with a full scholarship for his academic competence. In 2009, he started his studies at the Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná, in the Technological Chemistry with Environmental Emphasis program. In 2013 he came to Canada under the Science Without Borders exchange program. In 2014 he joined the Photo-chemistry group to study under the supervision of Dr. Tito Scaiano and Geniece Hallett-Tapley, with a focus on catalysis of protection and deprotection reactions using Niobium compounds, together with Charles-Oneil Crites. Outside the academic sphere, he is passionate about music, being a bass player and currently learning to play the banjo. He is a composer, lyricist and Double-Bass player in a Brazilian Country band called Old Time Rust.
