Mariana was born in La Plata, Argentina in 1981. She studied Biochemistry at the National University of La Plata and started working at the INIFTA (Research Institute of Theoretical and Applied Physical Chemistry) in the group of Dr. Andres Thomas, who later on became her PhD supervisor. She finished her thesis in December 2011, entitled Photochemical properties of biopterin, neopterin and their dihydroderivatives in aqueous solutions under UVA irradiation. She spent 3 months working under Prof. Esther Oliveros supervision in Toulouse, France at Université Paul Sabatier. In 2012, she got a postdoctoral fellow in photosensitization of DNA by b-carbolines with Dr. Franco Cabrerizoat the Institute of Biotechnology in Chascomús, Argentina and did part of her work at the Johannes Gutenberg Universität in Mainz, Germany. She is currently in Prof. Scaiano’s group working on coated silver nanoparticles (AgNP), their biocompatibility and bactericidal properties.
