BSc Chemistry – Universidad de Santiago de Chile (USACH) 2005
MSc in Chemistry, Universidad Catolica de Chile 2008
PhD in Chemistry, Universidad Catolica de Chile 2009
Emilio was born in Santiago, Chile (1982). In 2005, Emilio got his B.Sc. in chemistry under the supervision of PhD Eduardo Lissi at Universidad de Santiago de Chile exploring the chemiluminiscence mechanisms of tryptophan oxidation mediated by singlet oxygen. After that he moved to Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile to start working in several projects such as. protein oxidation mechanisms mediated by free radicals in photodynamic therapy (under the supervision of PhD Eduardo Lissi and Dr. Ana Maria Edwards), association binding models for low molecular weight molecules into human or bovine serum albumin (under the supervision of PhD Eduardo Lissi and Dr. Ana Maria Edwards), antioxidant methodologies for evaluating the antioxidant capacity of pure compound or complex mixtures (under the supervision of Dr. Camilo Lopez-Alarcon), and uses and applications of pre-fluorescent probes in biology (under the supervision of Dr. Alexis Aspee). He received his MS in Chemistry in 2008 and one year later the degree of PhD in Chemistry. Since October 2009 Emilio was part of our group exploring the development of new bionanomaterials for the health sciences and biosensors with special interest in gold, silver, and niobium nanoparticles in a permanent collaboration with Linkoping University and Karolinska Institutet in Sweden.
Emilio is presently a Principal Investigator at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute with an Assistant Professorship cross-appointment at the Faculty of Medicine of Ottawa University.
