Carolina was born in São Paulo, in the southeast of Brazil. She graduated in Biological Sciences from University of Mogi das Cruzes with course conclusion work titled Photochemical characterization of phenothiazines compounds and the effects of cation radical photochemically-generated by phenothiazine in biomolecules. The projects developed by her under the supervision of Dr. Iseli Lourenço Nantes and co-supervision of Prof. Tiago Rodrigues resulted in a patent PI 0801368-3 (authors: Iseli Lourenço Nantes, Tiago Rodrigues and Carolina Gregorutti dos Santos). She has a Masters and a PhD in Biotechnology from the University of Mogi das Cruzes. Her PhD was defended on March 2013 and the thesis was centered on the chemical and physicochemical aspects of phenothiazines compounds as an antioxidant, reductive and photoprotection agents under the supervision of Dra. Iseli Lourenço Nantes and with collaboration of Dr. Juan C. Scaiano. She joined the Scaiano group for 6 months in 2012(June - November) to complement her PhD studies and she returned to the Scaiano group on July 2014 as Postdoc with a research fellowship from Science Without Borders Program. Her studies will approach the characterization of metallic nanoparticles in small vesicles and its application in photocatalysis process and its effects in the biological systems. In her spare time, she enjoys playing music and painting pictures.
